Playground Project

My friend Ion and I have been asked to paint a story map on the playground of a Primary School in Bristol. I think it's going to be a great project. We went on a trip to look at the place and meet the teachers. I really wanted to join in with the P.E lesson that was going on while we were there...bean bag races...FUN!

They want a story map to go next to the story telling hut in the playground. It is based around all the stories they cover in the year such as Goldilocks and the three bears, The Enormous Turnip (one of my favorites!) Peter and the Wolf, Little Red Hen etc. The idea is for them to use them map to enhance the story experience and encourage imaginative play.

So I have done the design, which you can see above. Now we just need to get our supplies and get painting! I will post more pics as it is completed!

Book Covers

I was asked to redesign two book covers for Bloomsbury books and make them more fun and appealing to girls. Here are the final covers! I am really pleased with how they turned out. They are due to be published early next year.

Poor Pooches!

They don't look very pleased do they?

Cakes!

I have been working on some new pieces for my portfolio recently. Here is an illustration inspired by the cafe I work at in Bristol. It is for a little series of pieces based on jobs people do.

Poorly Pirate!

I am currently working on updating my portfolio (long overdue) and wanted to produce a quick editorial image for a kids magazine. After perusing the interweb this morning for a suitable subject, I came across an online mag for kids with lots of great inspiration for illustrations.

I love pirates and this artical (written by Dr. Bennet) about all their nasty diseases seemed like a perfect choice. It made me quite sad to draw this guy, soon to be residing in Davy Jones's Locker.

Norton Priory Gardens

I was given a brief at the beginning of the year to produce illustrations for a family guide book for Norton Priory. I received the finished book in the post a couple of weeks ago and I am delighted with the final outcome!

It was my first attempt at an illustrated map, which was a pretty complicated and time consuming process. It is nice to see it printed with all the labels and symbols added in, I am really happy with it.

It was great to work with writer Elizabeth Newbery again.

Sweet Treats Birthday Card

This is the first in a new range of greetings cards I am designing. I seem to have developed a taste for drawing yummy party food!

Ice Cream Delights

A little simple repeat pattern. I like the triangle shapes the cones make. I might try and add a few textures and layers to make it more fun! I think I could probably eat all these ice-creams in one go!

Spring has Sprung

I have just moved into a lovely new flat, with a beautiful garden. I have bought 12 different types of flower seeds and can't wait to get planting! Above are some pictures of the very overgrown vegetable patch, and the first flowers of the year.

This little cat is enjoying the view. What a nice day for a balloon ride.

I found a great tutorial on creating repeat patterns on the 'Ape on the Moon' blog. I thought i'd give it a try, so here is my very simple arctic tile.
